Week beginning 17th October

This week we have been decorating biscuits as our Jewel Jar treat. We will eat them tomorrow afternoon. We have been focusing on the sounds ‘f’, ‘ff’ and ‘ss’ in our phonics sessions and the features of a book. Miss Schieffer has also been teaching us some German words linked to the book Leafman. Having read the book lots of times, we went out on a scavenger hunt and made our own Leafmen.

Week beginning 10th October

This week we have been continuing to practice writing numbers and use our phonic knowledge to sound out words. The children decided to continue with kite making and then progressed to making shields. We pulled up the sun flowers in the garden and experimented with powder paint outside. This week’s letters were ‘ck’,’h’,’f’ and ‘ff’. Our tricky words were ‘if’ and ‘in’. Pictures will follow next week. Can we please remind you that the children should have their school reading scheme books in school every day along with their yellow reading record. This helps us to ensure that all children are heard read by an adult. If your child does not have tracksuit bottoms as part of their PE kits we would suggest that you pop some in their bag this week. Remember you are welcome to change your child’s reading book in class as often as you wish. The books are kept beneath the self-registration question.

Week beginning 3rd October

 

This week we have been very busy. We have been practising writing our numbers and drawing the appropriate number of objects to match the number. We also went to pick apples on our school field. We then filled them with sultanas and cinnamon and baked them in the oven. We then enjoyed them as an afternoon snack! The children have also been interested in the season of autumn and so we have been making leaf crowns, rubbings of leaves and continuing to make birds nests using natural resources. Outside our classroom we have a new potion table which we have begun to use. In our phonics sessions we have focused on the sounds ‘e’,’u’,’r’,and ‘b’, as well as the words ‘as’ and ‘at’.
