Week beginning 13th March

This week we have been looking at the traditional tale The Enormous Turnip. We have acted out the story, made masks and made up some of our own stories. We looked at daffodils in the garden and then mixed our own colours to paint them. We also looked at what had happened with our grass seeds experiment and then recorded our results in booklets. To continue to practice our fine motor skills we have been pegging up socks on a washing line and matching up pairs. We have had lovely spring weather so have enjoyed being out on the grass too. The children said ‘Farewell’ to Miss Schieffer as she returned home after working with us for the past 6 months.

Week beginning 6th March

This week we have looked at the story of the Gingerbread Man. We have been writing parts of the story, making stick puppets and making ginger biscuits. In PE we tried to use our upper body strength to climb the ropes. Mrs Humberstone also helped us to set up an experiment to see what happens when we plant grass seeds and leave them in the dark with some water. In our phonics sessions we have recapped the sounds ‘oa’ as in toad, ‘ar’ as in car, ‘oo’ as in look and ‘oo’ as in soon. We have also recapped the tricky words, ‘the’, ‘no’, ‘go’, and ‘to’.

Week beginning 27th February

This week has been a busy week. It was World Book Day on Thursday and we all dressed up as a book character. We have been practicing our handwriting and planning an outdoor flower shop as a role play area. We made porridge after reading Goldilocks and the three bears and took part in a whole school buddy read. Year 4 came and shared their shadow puppets theatres and performed the plays they had written. We also made stick puppets to retell the story of The Runaway Pancake before we made and tasted our own pancakes. In phonics we have focused on ‘ai’ as in tail, ‘ee’ as in feet and ‘igh’ as in night.
